Ask Anything recruitment events

We will be conducting a virtual Ask Anything event for each vacancy in the run up to the closing date. This is your opportunity to speak to some HEFCW employees and HR staff to ask any questions you may have. Could you provide effective support as we develop policies to support students in higher education in Wales?

We are looking for a Skills and Employability Officer to work with us to support the Welsh higher education sector to equip their graduates with the necessary skills, attributes and knowledge to meet their ambitions. The Skills and Employability team’s work includes areas such as graduate employability, skills, and degree apprenticeships, and you will be integral to achieving the team’s goals.

You will work closely as part of our team to process monitoring data, provide support for the degree apprenticeship programme, and liaise with external partners and stakeholders, such as universities and the Welsh Government. You will take ownership for the areas of your work and support others in the team. Through providing support for meetings and events including liaising with partners to schedule meetings, drafting agendas and helping prepare papers, as well as taking minutes, you will progress your knowledge and contribution to policy development. While the role will mean making a difference for students, you will not be working directly with students.

In order to deliver this role, effective communication and numeracy skills are essential, along with problem solving, analytical and IT skills. You will also have excellent organisational and administrative skills and will have A Levels and experience ideally gained within a higher education environment or be educated to degree level. You will receive full support from your team and training opportunities as you settle in to the role

The ability to communicate bilingually in Welsh and English is desirable.

Could you make a positive difference to the experience of higher education students in Wales?

Do you have experience in policy development/delivery?

If so, this could be the role for you!

We are looking for a member of our Student Experience team to help us develop policy relating to aspects of the student experience, and help us undertake our regulatory role in relation to the quality of higher education at providers in Wales. Areas of work covered by the team include academic standards, learning and teaching, and student information.

We are looking for an individual with great communication skills who can work in partnership with others and act with integrity, to help us deliver the objectives of our Corporate Strategy, respond to Welsh Government policy steers, and ensure that students have a high-quality academic experience. The role is wide-ranging and will allow you to demonstrate your analytical and problem solving skills, as well as your understanding of issues which impact on the student academic experience.

Experience of the development and delivery of policy and processes is essential. This would preferably be in quality assurance and/or student experience, and ideally from within a higher education or public sector environment.

You will lead the development, implementation and review of policy in areas such as the national student survey, student partnership and implementation of HEFCW’s responsibilities regarding quality assessment. You will also support key committees, including writing papers, undertaking projects and taking minutes, and support our review of teaching funding.

You will maintain effective working relationships with external partners and stakeholders. The role will focus on the student interest but will not involve direct contact with individual students.

The ability to communicate bilingually in Welsh and English is desirable.

You will have a varied range of work within the team as well as informing the work of other teams in HEFCW on matters of equality, diversity and inclusion. Through attending and providing support for meetings and events you will progress your knowledge, and contribution to policy development, whilst also receiving full support from your team and training opportunities at all times. While the role will mean making a difference for students, you will not be working directly with students.

HEFCW is recruiting for a new ICT Support Officer to join our small, established team.  This exciting opportunity is in a user-focused role that will provide first line ICT support services to our staff, and help to develop systems and digital services based on industry best practice.

You will also work with and support the senior ICT staff to deliver a wide variety of systems and services; including system administration, technical documentation, information security maintenance, asset management, working on projects, and more.

Some relevant experience within an ICT support role would be advantageous but not essential as you will receive support from your team and training opportunities as you settle in to the role.  You should have relevant ICT qualifications or be educated to degree level.

You will be a team player, who is able to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and external contacts. The ability to work on your own initiative, prioritise tasks effectively, and set a balance between various competing requirements is essential.

You will be keen to learn new skills across all areas of ICT, with a positive attitude that puts information security at the forefront of your mind in everything you do. This will contribute to being part of the wider Corporate Services Directorate, working towards providing an efficient and effective service for HEFCW staff, and ultimately supporting HEFCW’s objective of delivering a world class higher education system in Wales.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Statistical Analyst to contribute to HEFCW’s regulatory and strategic objectives through analysing higher education data and ensuring data quality.

HEFCW’s Statistics Team are responsible for analysing and reporting on data related to higher education students, staff and finance; for providing information to internal and external colleagues; and for developing funding models and calculating funding allocations. As a new team member, you will become an expert in higher education data and have the skills, experience and knowledge to effectively provide data and information for others.

Educated to degree level or the equivalent in a numerate field such as mathematics or statistics, you will be a team player, who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with HEFCW colleagues, data contacts at universities and external stakeholders such as the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

You will be able to work independently, to think of solutions to problems and provide suggestions and improvements to address the needs of those using the analysis and information you produce. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail and be able to see the broader relevance of what they produce and how it will be used. Strong communication and listening skills are essential. Excellent IT skills, including in Microsoft Excel and programming experience in SAS or similar software are vital.
