  • Welsh Assembly Government announces new chair for HEFCW

  • Roger Thomas OBE has been announced as the new Chair of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales. Mr Thomas, former Chair of the University of Glamorgan and Chairs of Higher Education Wales (CHEW), will take up his new role on 5 May 2008.
  • HEFCW Remit Letter 2008-09

  • We received our annual Remit Letter from the Welsh Assembly Government in March. The letter, which covers April 2008 to March 2009, gives us guidance about how to distribute the funding we are given from the Assembly, to higher education (HE) institutions in Wales and for HE courses at further education colleges. The Remit Letter is set firmly within the context of One Wales, the document which outlined an agenda for Wales by the ruling coalition government in the National Assembly.

  • The results of the 2008 National Student Survey have shown a consistently high level of satisfaction with courses in Wales The National Student Survey data are available on Unistats.com. The site will help students researching entry to higher education to compare information about different subjects and institutions.
  • HESA Statistical Release

  • The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) has published a Statistical First Release which includes details of the number of higher education (HE) student enrolments and qualifications gained at higher education institutions (HEIs) in the UK in 2006/07
  • The number enrolled on HE courses at HEIs in Wales in 2006/07 was 131,765, an increase of 2 per cent compared to 2005/06, with first year enrolments increasing by 4 per cent. The number graduating with a first degree increased by 1 per cent compared to 2005/06, whilst the number obtaining postgraduate level qualifications increased by 13 per cent.
