  • A joint workshop by HEEPI and EAUC. There is growing interest in – and Government support for - the development of renewable energy in the UK. Further and higher education is well placed to be at the vanguard of this development, given that there is a high level of sustainability awareness amongst students and staff, rising costs of fossil fuel consumption, and the availability of suitable land and buildings on many campuses. This event aims to: · Provide an overview of the current ‘state of the art’ in renewable energy, and projections of how it might develop in future · Examine the success and learning points from some of the renewable installations which have occurred on UK campuses (Brighton, Harper Adams, Plymouth and York) to date · Identify sources of funding for future initiatives. It also recognises the success of Harper Adams University College in winning the Colleges category of the Green Gown Awards for 2006 for its innovative biomass CHP plant (see http://www.heepi.org.uk/green_gown/GG%20individ/gg%20harper%20small%2005.pdf%20small%2005.pdf). Delegates will have an opportunity to view this, as well as (from a distance) rooftop photovoltaic installations and the new Bamford library, which makes stunning use of natural timber roofing.
