Our procurement function provides procurement expertise both to our staff and to the higher education (HE) sector in Wales. It raises the profile of procurement internally and within the HE sector. It also helps to communicate Welsh Assembly Government procurement policies to the HE sector and other key stakeholders.
The procurement function within HEFCW:- supports the procurement activity that takes place within HEFCW to ensure that value for money is obtained when purchasing its own goods, services and works, and to ensure that procurement best practice is always followed

Sustainable procurement embeds the principles of sustainable development into spending decisions. Better spending decisions that take into account environmental and social as well as economic considerations can deliver real value for money.
Our Sustainable Procurement Policy sets out the principles, policies and procedures on which sustainable procurement activity within HEFCW will be based. It also prompts staff involved in the procurement of goods and services and works to use sustainability as a factor in their purchasing decisions.

Opening Doors - The Charter for SME Friendly Procurement has been produced through Value Wales. This Charter is part of a programme of actions to deliver a consistent approach to procurement across the public sector in Wales while at the same time, addressing issues of particular concern to SMEs.
HEFCW and HE sector in Wales have signed up to the Charter.
